Gareth Paul Gates was born on the 12th July 1984 which makes him under the star-sign of Cancer. He lives with his family in Bradford, mother Wendy, dad Paul, sister Nicola and there are also foster children within the family. Now that his career is about to step up a place it is most likely that he will be moving to London. Gareth doesn't drive as yet.
He has no girlfriend at present, has had lots of friends who are girls but his ideal girlfriend would be Britney Spears or Rachael Stevens from S-Club 7 with whom he recently sang a duet in the Pop Idol Special screened on the 23rd February (see my News page for photographs).
One of his favourite performers is Robbie Williams, he regards Robbie as an all-round entertainer. He was once on Steps to the Stars on TV where he met Claire and H from Steps. Gareth also loves Westlife, he sang one of their songs, Flying Without Wings, at his audition. It is believed he will join them as part of their tour during 2002.
Gareth is very musically talented. Apart from his obvious vocal talents he can play the drums, the piano and is a classically trained guitarist.
Gareth has said all along that if becoming successful through Pop Idol he would like to help the homeless, hungry and those suffering. He said that if he was not successful on Pop Idol he would most likely return to music but in the form of opera at which he is trained and he already has a place at a music college.
When asked to describe himself in three words he replied determined, hardworking and friendly. His saddest moment during the whole Pop Idol experience was when Zoe lost out and he was powerless to stop the tears from coming on her exit from the show. Zoe had been with him from the beginning and they had become very close friends. Her father also suffers with a stammer and Zoe had been helping Gareth overcome his difficulties. His happiest moment was winning his heat with 63% of the votes and he was ecstatic about the "battle bus" used in the final week of campaigning up to the final.

Gareth Gates

Gareth Gates was born12th July 1984 to Paul and Wendy Gates. He sang for the Queen when he was 12 and can play the the piano, the guitar, and the drums.
Well known for his stammer, Gareth Gates seems to have been adopted by many mums and adored by their daughters ever since he appeared on the Pop Idol series.
Despite the fact that he did not win the Pop Idol crown he has moved on to be even

more popular than Will Young who actually did win.
He has sung in a charity song with The Kumars, and has signed a number of promotional deals, including Pepsi and Wella hair products.
It is apparent that Gareth Gates has a musical talent, and being so young this can only grow into something very big in the coming years and there's no doubt he will have fans aplenty.

Sensational Gareth Gates shot to fame through the ITV Series Pop Idol. Born on 12th July 1984 in Bradford, England, Gareth's influences are Robbie Williams and Westlife. His favourite female performer is Britney Spears. But as his performances Pop Idol demonstrated, he's capable of performing a huge range of styles of music. While some expected Gareth's stammer to hold him back, the British public got behind him and pushed him to the exciting final of the show where he gave the eventual winner, Will Young, a real run for his money. But even as the final show drew to a close, it was clear that Gareth who was narrowly beaten, would be every bit as successful as Will.

Gareth, who is certainly determined and hard working, released 'Unchained Melody' weeks after the finale of Pop Idol and immediately knocked Will off the UK number one slot. Several weeks later it was still the most popular song around; and there are bags more hits where that came from. Good looking thanks to his brown eyes and that dark hair that he's so obsessed with. Add a natural ability to perform any song brilliantly, and Gareth is here to stay.

Let's face it, much of the world has recently heard of Gareth for the first time, but it definitely won't be the last! The music industry has many copies but very few originals. Gareth's success to date is based on the performance of some great cover versions performed with respect for the original artist, yet benefiting from a unique quality that only Gareth Gates could add.
Date of Birth: 12/07/1984
